ASHTON BOYS 2
FRY CLUB COLTS 4
The biggest game of our season to date as we were
third in the division, 5 points behind Ashton but with 3 games in hand.
With
the exception of Michael Payne, who was ill, we had yet again a full strength
squad to select from. A few tactical changes in team selection were made, and
it was to prove very successful as we got at Ashton from the kick off and were
2-0 up in the first 10 mins. The first was scored by
Mo Bouaziz who intercepted a poor clearance from the
goalkeeper and put a delightful chip back over him into the empty net. The
second was great team play which put the ball at Bradley Monelles’
feet and he again chipped the ball over the keeper into the top corner. From this
position we continued to dominate and although Ashton pulled a goal back
through a lucky corner, we continued to push their defence all the way with
Brad and Mo up front playing very strong. Craig Andrews had dropped back into
Midfield with Oli Randall and just before half time
their dominance helped to create an opening for Craig who found the ball coming
across his left and the goal mouth but he wrapped his left foot around the ball
into the roof of the net to put us 3-1 up at half time.
Although Ashton did come back at us in the second half, both James Hurrell Smith and James Boulton defended brilliantly with Craig Francis in goal supporting them very well throughout the game. A forth goal eventually came midway through the second half as Ashton pushed forward and Brad Monelle latched onto a great through ball and his precise shot curled around the keeper into the top right corner to win the 3 points for us. Ashton scored a late consolation but the result was never in doubt and this really was such a strong team performance from all players which meant a lot in terms of our league position.
With
such good performances, a cross section of votes from the parents eventually
chose the Man of the Match, which came down between Brad Monelle
and James Boulton. It was just won though by James Boulton for such a strong solid defensive display.
